Gift Idea: Custom Made Sock Monkey (And A Giveaway!)
12:49 PMIts that time of year again! Thanksgiving is around the corner, which means that I get to start decorating for Christmas in about two weeks! I've been somewhat working on Christmas gifts here and there, but now I'm full-on checking the Naughty and Nice list and getting shopping done! I'm going to share some of my favorite and unique finds as I'm inspired, and maybe compile a list of all the ones I've written about in the past. In the meantime, check out the "Cool Stuff 'n Gift Ideas" tag for things I've shared in the past :)
I'm beyond excited about this post! I wanted to write about this last year, but things were sorta crazy and I never got around to it. Two years ago, I found someone on Etsy who makes custom made sock monkeys.
SOCK MONKEYS?!
Yes!!!
The kiddos love monkeys, and Alex was starting to have an inkling of a desire to start collecting sock monkeys a few years ago, so that is how I stumbled across Marsha and her amazing talent. Back in '09 (wow, that sounds long ago!) I asked if she could play Santa's elf and make Mario and Peach monkeys for me for Christmas - the kids were really into Mario that year and were even Mario and Peach for Halloween.
She seemed really excited by the challenge, and I eagerly awaited my package. Let me tell you, I was not nearly expecting the quality of the monkeys she made, especially the clothing! They were marvelous! Fabulous! Amazingly cute and sturdy and gorgeous and... well, you get the idea!

One idea that I know my son would love is a train engineer. My son loves trains so much and I know a number of other kids that do too.

Omg I love those monkeys! I'm stealing your idea and am going to give them to rylie every year. Hmmm... What theme should it be since she's not into anything. Maybe some kind of baby monkey
ReplyDeleteJessie, I know, right?? I'd go for a baby monkey or theme until she "likes" things (or maybe something that matches her bedding?), then her monkeys would almost be like a timeline of her favorite things :D
ReplyDeletePeg - An engineer would be so cute! I love that idea :)
I love these monkeys - am a follower - a new follower and glad to be here.
ReplyDeleteHard to pick my favorite Etsy shop - so many - do love Hooked on Needles.
ReplyDeleteI think a custom sock monkey depicting a persons occupation would be neat - dentist, school teacher etc - also a grandmother, grandfather set would be cute.
ReplyDeleteI think a homemade gift is the most unique - especially if it is personalized. Homemade means so much thought, love and work has been put in the gift as opposed to running to the nearest store and grabbing a gift card or the first thing you see.

I like the Etsy shop beadsidemyself. I may be biased because it is my sister's shop :)

I would think a Woody or Buzz Light Year monkey would be cute. Ones in traditional German clothes would also be adorable.

A unique gift idea for kids is handmaking them felt set of their favorite characters. It's simple to do using iron-on tranfer paper, a printer, and felt.

I personally like the plain sock monkeys best, but it might be fun to see a fireman or a nurse. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteMy favorite etsy store is definitely gemsprouts--living necklaces!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the poster above about a plain sock monkey, but I think a mickey mouse one would be cute for a disney lover!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite etsy shop (other than my own :>)) would have to be Apesnort. They have great t-shirt designs. I shared your blog on facebook and on twitter.
ReplyDeleteMy ideas for sock monkeys would be: GI Joe Monkey, Kermit the Frog Monkey, Sailor Monkey (that one may have already been done), Circus Ringmaster Monkey with top hat and tux.

The most interesting and unique gift I ever got is a spinning wheel. Where my husband got that idea I don't know but believe it or not I love it. I am not very good at it but I keep trying.
