For those of you that may not know, I'm new to the homeschooling world. We are still trying to find our daily flow and routine, and it is quite nerve-wracking thinking that I am the one responsible for my children's education, but let me say right now how much I love having them home with me!
And to make our homeschooling official, we now have a class pet!! Thanks to another mom on base who will be transferring back stateside shortly, we became the new care takers for a blue crawfish! I didn't even know there was such a thing!
We took this as an opportunity for a science lesson! We didn't know much about the little critters, other than the fact that its daddy's favorite food, and they are mighty tasty little things!
I found as much child-friendly info I could, along with a color-in anatomy diagram of a crawfish, and we learned all sorts of things we didn't know.
I cut out some paper from our easel and taped it to their playroom door. They drew the diagram as accurate as possible (they both drew it together), and they labeled the different parts. Did you know they have two sets of antennas?
Then they littered the empty space full of facts that they recalled.
Here is a close-up of the head they drew.
They each colored half; Lance Jr colored the head blue, in honor of our new buddy, and Alex colored the *coughyummycough* tail reddish brown, which is how most crawfish are colored.
Isn't he cute?! I just can't stand it! And we had to name him, of course. And we came up with...
Man, I'm getting hungry!
