Pizza Bianca

I promised in my last post that I would share my favorite pizza sauce. Thing One doesn't like red pizza/marinara sauce, so I decided a while ago to look for a white pizza sauce for her. One of the first ones I made was incredible, and the few others I've tried since (just to see if I could find a better one) don't come close to comparing. I found this recipe on Cooks.com and have slightly modified it. It is a sauce - I know there are a few different types of "white pizzas." My personal favorite toppings are chicken and sauteed mushrooms (the picture above is my slice with the toppings), and combined with this sauce, packs so much flavor that is amazing, and a little grown up tasting, too!

Pizza Bianca
Yields two pizzas

2 pizza crusts
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon pepper
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon white wine (optional)
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon oregano
2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
any preferred toppings, optional

1. Preheat oven to 425˚.

2. Brush 1 teaspoon of olive oil on each crust.

3. In a medium saucepan, saute garlic until soft. Blend in cornstarch, salt, pepper, and spices. Gradually add milk, wine, and parmesan cheese. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly, for two minutes. Let white sauce cool slightly.

4. Spread white sauce over crusts. Sprinkle mozzarella and other toppings over sauce. Bake for 10 minutes or until hot and bubbly.
